Google has come up with a new update to its searching algorithm on its 15th birthday. The new searching algorithm is named “Hummingbird”. Unlike the previous update “Panda” which only fixed the algorithm here and there, the new “Hummingbird” is a whole new rewrite.
The previous update “Panda” took its toll on small sites and this one is expected to hit them with a much bigger blow. Even though for the past one month Google has been using this new algorithm, they officially announced the update only recently.

The last major update of Google’s searching algorithm was four years ago with an update named “Caffeine Update”. Until then the search engine only sorted the website with its ranking, but with “Caffeine Update” they started to collect data to make the searches better.

The new “Hummingbird” update ranks the webpages not just by the interesting contents it is having, but it also looks into the sources from where you get your content. According to the developers, the new update should help its users to answer complex queries instead of just searching for keywords. The long term effects of the changed algorithm is yet to be known.
